Nestled in the Connecticut woods among flowering trees and shrubs, the Mandrake Inn offers guests a unique retreat back home to Mother Earth. The inn is secluded in an acre of perennial walking and sitting gardens shaded by giant oaks and embellished with an ever flowing waterfall that trickles into a pond of fish. This historic colonial home whose origins date to the middle 18th century has been lovingly converted into an elegant inn with three distinctive guest accommodations. Perhaps most unique about the Mandrake Inn are the owners themselves - Sherry Geer, an artist and Pierre Marchand, a cabinetmaker. The Mandrake is their pride and joy, and it shows in everything from the hand crafted furniture to the hand painted murals on the walls. One really has to care from their heart to create the quality workmanship that adorns the Mandrake Inn.

Sienna RoomThe common theme throughout the Mandrake is nature, and one can't help but feel tranquil and serene once inside. The inn still retains some of the historic charm from over 200 years ago with exposed wood beams, wide pine hardwood floors and five fireplaces. Accommodations bring the outside indoors with a palette of nature's finest colors creating a rustic earthy charm. The inviting features of the three guest rooms include exposed beams, queen-sized beds, private baths, television and air conditioning. The Sienna Room, the signature room of Mandrake is decorated in sienna tones featuring hand painted walls and murals reflecting various outdoor scenes. The full bath with a whirlpool tub continues the outdoor theme. This room offers guests the best of both worlds...outdoor romance and adventure...indoors.

A generous breakfast begins each day with plenty of fresh fruit, ground coffee, specialty teas and fresh juices. Guests feast on a range of unique, regionally inspired specialties like mouth-watering omelets filled with fresh vegetables and herbs from Sherry's garden or French crepes complimented with European cheeses and tempting pastries. All breakfasts can be catered to meet special dietary needs as well. In the bed and breakfast tradition, this meal is included in the room rate.

Fish PondLong, lazy weekends are encouraged at the Mandrake Inn. No early checkout time is imposed. In fact, there is no set time imposed for breakfast either - qualities much appreciated by those wishing to retreat from schedules and clocks. One would never know that just minutes away are two of the East Coast's most popular casinos - Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. After a day at the casinos, guests can return to the inn and enjoy sipping a glass of wine in front of the fireplace or an evening soaking in a starlit hot tub beside the outdoor gardens - the perfect weekend antidote to 21st century stress.
