My wife, Christine, and I certainly love our weekend getaways. And there is no better way to get away for a weekend than to stay at a bed and breakfast. Each bed and breakfast is a unique reflection of the owners love of people and pride in their home. You just can't match the experience in an impersonal hotel. As much as we love romantic getaways, after the birth of our son last July we began to wonder if there were any bed and breakfasts out there that cater to families. We found our answer in Celtic Pines Horse Farm Bed & Breakfast.Celtic Pines is an extraordinary family friendly bed and breakfast set on a gorgeous 17 acre working horse farm in Pine Bush, New York. Pine Bush is located in Orange County, New York, one hour and fifteen minutes northwest of New York City.
The innkeeper of Celtic Pines is Cindy Rosen. She is very warm, outgoing and energetic. One can't help but notice that she is living her passion. She loves horses and sharing her passion for horses with other people.
Upon arriving at Celtic Pines, she will walk you around the farm and introduce you to each horse and pony while affectionately telling you their personality traits, personal history and their little quirks. She truly realized her dreams when she opened Celtic Pines in 2002.
As soon as you approach Celtic Pines, you realize you are indeed in the country. The air is crisp and clear. Horses call back and forth to each other from one pasture to another as chicken chase each other around the yard. To the left of the house is a barn and a hen house. Surrounding three sides of the house are pastures where several horses and Connemara ponies frolic about. If you approach the fence, these sweet and friendly animals will come right over to you to say hello. They will even tenderly eat apples right from your hand. To the right of the house is a large arena for the horses where guests can take riding lessons, or simply watch these magnificent animals at work.
The guest rooms of the bed and breakfast and a common sitting room encompass the entire second floor of the Rosen family's home. Each bedroom has a breathtaking view of the horse farm. The "Stampede Room" has two twin beds, making it ideal for children. The "Hunt Room" has a double bed and enough room for an additional bed to be set up for children if necessary. The "Polo Room" has a queen size bed and is ideal for couples. There is no need for an alarm clock at Celtic Pines, the roosters will wake you up early! Downstairs there is a billiards room available for guests. Sliding glass doors in this room open out onto a patio where guests are invited to use the inground pool and outdoor jacuzzi. Another wonderful aspect of being in the country is how beautiful the sky looks at night. It was awe-inspiring to sit in the jacuzzi at night looking at the stars with the love of my life (hey, who said family friendly meant romance was dead?) The food at Celtic Pines is also straight from the farm. Cindy buys all the vegetables from local farmers, and the eggs come straight from the hen house.
Celtic Pines offers plenty of fun right on the farm, but to really have an unforgettable time, you must take a trail ride through one of the surrounding National Parks. There are three beautiful and pristine National Parks close by: Mohonk, Minnewaska and Highland Lakes. These trails run along cliffs hundreds of feet high that overlook the Catskill Mountains, passing mountain lakes, meadows and untouched forests along the way. Celtic Pines offers experienced riders a three hour long trail ride through your choice of any of these gorgeous parks. And if you are not sure which is best for you, just ask Cindy. She knows the area well and will develop a trail ride that suits you and your whole family! Also available are half hour and one hour long riding lessons for beginners in the arena next to the bed and breakfast.
Celtic Pines is a perfect family getaway. It combines the small bed and breakfast charm wiht family friendly activiites, all on a working horse farm. And best of all, it is only an hour and fifteen minutes from New York City.
